Stronger together: our Food for All volunteering with Amazon

Charity 9 Jun, 26

Over three days, the team contributed 240 collective hours of volunteering, combining passion, drive and dedication to help deliver 25,000 meals to those in need across London.

The initiative built on CDW’s existing volunteer relationship with the charity, creating an opportunity to engage our customers at Amazon’s Fulfilment Centres in a shared effort. Led by Shelly Hennessy, Amazon Account Director, and Lee Hendra, Sales Director, the programme brought CDW coworkers and our broader ecosystem together in a meaningful way outside of the day-to-day working environment, uniting individuals in support of Food for All.

This London based charity is committed to delivering no-cost, freshly prepared meals to those experiencing homelessness and hardship. Food for All has been supporting crisis communities for over 33 years, evolving from a grassroots initiative into a Queen’s Award-recognised charity. Today, it makes a difference to the lives of over 2,000 Londoners each day, providing over 730,000 meals annually.

To support the incredible work of Food for All, our team of volunteers rolled up their sleeves and fully immersed themselves in the experience. They supported a range of activities within the Food for All kitchen, preparing and producing meals across a sweet and cookie station, prepping vegetables and sourcing ingredients. The reach of these meals extends broadly, supporting those facing homelessness but also individuals in need of extra support, including key workers in healthcare and public services.

The days spent volunteering made a lasting impact on all our volunteers, with many acknowledging the experience as “humbling” and also sharing how it put their own daily tasks “into perspective”. At the same time, the work also provided a valuable opportunity to connect, collaborate and make a difference with our customers and partners on a deeper level.

Shelly reflected on her experience and the value of working alongside Amazon and coworkers from across CDW:

"It was such a good environment to connect. You've got four hours with your customers and you're just talking the whole time. You get to learn so much about them outside of just the work them. That’s what I found the most valuable. It was just brilliant."

“[It was] all people I wouldn’t have spoken to, that wouldn’t have crossed our working daily lives. You get to bond with coworkers you’d never normally meet.”

– Shelly Hennessy

At its core, the initiative was rooted in collaboration, community, support and inclusivity, values integral to our culture at CDW UK&I. Coworkers from across our business came together, alongside volunteers from Amazon’s Fulfilment Centres and our ITAD partner Renew IT, united by a shared commitment to give back to our local community and champion the charities that provide vital support for those in need.

Time spent in the Food for All kitchen brought this collective effort to life, offering a clear demonstration of what can be achieved when organisations and individuals come together with a shared sense of purpose. Beyond the practical support delivered on the day, the experience strengthened connections across teams, customers and partners, reinforcing the impact of working closely as a wider network to support meaningful causes.

This collaboration highlights the value of showing up with genuine intent and working together towards something that matters. As Lee Hendra reflected, “if you do it with a true heart, it’s got value”.

Through Amazon’s Supplier for Good programme, Augustín Dellagiovanna, Amazon Senior Procurement Manager, shared his thoughts on why this kind of collaboration matters at scale.

“This is one of the ways working with our suppliers can maximise the impact that we can create in our communities."

– Augustín Dellagiovanna, Senior Procurement Manager, Community Impact & Sustainability

“I think this is something we should absolutely get behind more, and I know I will. What was especially valuable was that it gave us a different perspective on our relationship with Amazon. We typically work with Amazon Corporate, but this was through their Fulfilment Centres, which introduced us to a completely new set of contacts we may not otherwise have connected with — or at least not as quickly.”

"If you can brighten someone's day that's having a really tough time, we should do that. We should want to do that."

– Shelly Hennessy, CDW UK&I Amazon Account Director

A huge well done to this fantastic team of volunteers, with sincere thanks to our customer Amazon and partner Renew IT for joining us in making a positive impact in our communities.
