Transforming the Fan Experience at Ryder Cup 2023 through Sustainable Connectivity
CDW partnered with The Ryder Cup 2023 to provide innovative technology solutions that played a pivotal role in revolutionising the Ryder Cup experience for fans.
Connectivity at Scale
One of the primary challenges was ensuring seamless connectivity for the 100,000 devices concurrently connected to the infrastructure. CDW deployed nearly one thousand Wi-Fi 6A-enabled access points, providing Ryder Cup 2023 with a frictionless onboarding experience. The result was a connected fan experience that surpassed expectations.
Simplified Deployment
“The technological deployment that we had in place was one of the most complicated deployments of technology in any major sporting event. The approach and the way we work with CDW enabled us to reduce that complexity.” Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer, Ryder Cup Europe.
CDW's approach streamlined this complexity by pre-staging, hot-staging, and asset-tagging each piece of equipment. By setting up two network operating centres and a security operations centre (SOC), CDW ensured a resilient infrastructure, ready to support the event seamlessly.
Technology Operations Center Management
CDW supported the SOC within the Technology Operations Centre, providing a proactive security approach. This not only addressed potential issues swiftly but also instilled confidence in the event's security. With CDW managing the SOC environment, the Ryder Cup 2023 organisers were fully confident in the platform's readiness just a week before the event.
“A week out from the Ryder Cup, we were fully confident that we had a platform and an infrastructure that was ready to support one of the world's top sporting events.” Michael Cole, Chief Technology Officer, Ryder Cup Europe.
Innovation in Sustainability
With a commitment to sustainability, Ryder Cup 2023 aimed to be the most eco-friendly edition ever staged. CDW contributed significantly by introducing solar-powered access points. This innovative solution not only aligned with environmental goals, but also showcased CDW's ability to integrate cutting-edge technology for a sustainable impact.
“I have no doubt that the success of our technological deployment really attributed to the overall success of what many are saying is the best Ryder Cup to date and working with CDW has really drawn upon that innovation capability and enabled us to do just that.”
